Client-centered Consultation
Penumbra is a consultation service based in Portland, Oregon, and offers individual consultation for clients who are interested in expert consultation from a trained psychiatrist.
Oregon has passed Measure 109 which has created a 2 year development period for the generation of Psilocybin Service Centers in all agreeing Oregon counties/municipalities. This period ends in January 2023, at which time service centers may obtain a license from the Oregon Health Authority, hire service facilitators who meet the criteria for providing facilitation, and administer fungal-product to clients on service center grounds.
Educating Service Centers
Many providers, both in the medical paradigm and in other healing paradigms, can benefit from case consultation with an expert psychiatrist. Penumbra provides this service on a sliding-scale depending on the paradigm in which consultation is requested.

Psychiatrist, Educator, Writer, and Creator of Penumbra Psychedelic Consulting
Dr. Aryan Sarparast (he/him/his) is a board-certified psychiatrist who practices psychopharmacology and psychotherapy in Portland, Oregon, USA as Assistant Faculty in the Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic at Oregon Health & Science University.
He grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia in an immigrant household, surrounded by the diversity of his hometown of Coquitlam. His interest in psychiatry began when his dad, a very overqualified electrician, lent him Man for Himself by Erich Fromm which kicked off a lifelong passion for the mind and behavior. At the University of Oregon, Dr. Sarparast did neuroscience research on human pupil dilation response and completed his bachelors in psychology before moving on to get his M.D. at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine where he also began publishing his narrative medicine writings, created The Script Literary Magazine, and did research on neuro-oncology. After obtaining his M.D., he came back to Oregon to complete his adult psychiatry residency at Oregon Health & Science University. While there he honed his passion for psychedelic psychiatry, which took flight after meeting his research mentor Dr. Chris Stauffer, with whom he was able to publish on the topic of drug-drug interactions between psychedelics and psychiatric medications. He also created a residency curriculum for trainees to learn more about psychedelics among many other projects along the way.
Currently, Dr. Sarparast continues to lecture and speak on the topic of psychedelic harm reduction, as well as his area of expertise, psychedelic interactions with psychiatric medications. He is also a Study Physician for a MAPS sponsored trial on MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for treatment of social anxiety led by principle investigator and founder of the Portland Psychotherapy Center, Dr. Jason Luoma
Dr. Sarparast is interested and available for side collaborations and talks worldwide. If you want to chat about science, psychedelics, poetry, jazz, or anything else, donโt hesitate in reaching out.
